The First Sunday Without Any Real Football

As I woke up today, I came to realize that there was no real football on today. I was sad. What I would have given for any real football, even a Lions/Bengals game, man I would love to see a Lions/Bengals game right now. So how did my sports day go, its not pretty:

11:00 - SportsCenter, not a bad start to the day. It's fun to see any credibility that A-Rod had go down the drain. It started with him leaving his hot wife to bang a 50-year old tramp named MaDonna and now the steroid allegations make me happy as I have never liked him. The most disturbing thing of this though is how many overweight fans wearing a jersey or t-shirt of their team from the 80's that doesn't fit just right are going to come to the game while A-Rod is on the road with signs that say "A-Roid" and think they are being original?

12:00 - Lets see, I have College Women's Gymnastics or Bowling, hmmm, I will take the gymnastics. Though it would be fun to see a few of these bowlers on the beam.

1:00 - Got some college basketball...so that is not so bad, unfortunately it is the Big Ten and the score is 12-4 with 1 minute to play.

2:00 - Golf is on, I like golf. John Rollins has a 4 stroke lead which he hasn't had since a circle jerk in college. So that is boring.

2:40 - The Wild vs Oilers. I like the Wild, I do. But it is the one sport where i can only get excited if i am in the arena.

2:45 - Back to golf. Watching guys make a shot that it would take me 6 strokes to get to the same place is depressing.

3:00 - The Pro Bowl, hey at least I get to watch Adrian Peterson, Kevin Williams, and the rest of the Vikes. Oh wait, it is the Pro Bowl, so they really don't run the ball, there goes AD. And defenses don't try, I think I just saw the AFC defense go into an 11 man deep zone. It is still fun to watch Fitz.

Arrgghh, September can't some soon enough.

I Stand Corrected About Boston Fans

In my last post (and many prior to this) I show my disgust towards Boston fans. It turns out I am wrong about them being the worst ever. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Boston area sportswriters.

Seriously, wow.

Effing unbelievable.

Yes, I think everyone would agree that every year we should change the playoff rules to benefit the Patriots. "Hey, the Patriots are 2-14, we should let the teams in with the most losses this year, cause they are the best teams."

Pathetic.

Super Bowl - A History of Rooting Interest

Since my favorite team always disappoints (The 0-4 Minnesota Vikings), to make the Super Bowl interesting, you have to pick a team to root for. I have found that hate becomes a major part of my decision, meaning that I root for the team i hate less. Looking at the past Super Bowls, there has only one Super Bowl of the recent past where I didn't have hate for either of the teams, a situation i find myself in now with the Cardinals and the Steelers. So who do I root for? We will find out at the end of this post, but first a look back:

XLII: New York Giants vs New England Patriots: This one is obvious if you have ever read this site. I have an extreme dislike for all Boston teams, and it is not because of the players. I like Garnett, Pierce, Welker, Ortiz and probably some of the hockey guys if i knew who they were (of course there are guys you don't like on each team too, media hounds like Schilling and Brady, guys who don't try like Ramirez, and just flat out punks like Harrison) but that is the case of all teams. The reason I don't like the Boston teams is the fans, period. They have a sense of entitlement that disgusts me. Anytime there team loses they want to change the rules to benefit their team, as shown this year by there complaints that the 9-7 Cardinals made the playoffs and they didn't. What I say to that is, "Hey, maybe you should beat out the 1-15 Dolphins from last year". So I rooted for the Giants even though the only teams I like less than them are probably the Patriots and Cowboys, that's how much I hate the Patriots.

XLI: Indianapolis Colts vs Chicago Bears: This is nothing against the Colts, but my hate at this time derived from the 786 Peyton Manning commercials that were shown daily so i rooted for the Bears (yes a division rival) and i really liked Devin Hester at the time.

XL: Pittsburgh Steelers vs Seattle Seahawks: This was the one where I didn't hate either team. Pittsburgh has the history and the great (but not cocky) fan base that extends across the country and Seattle has a bunch of coffee drinking hippies (how could you hate coffee drinking hippies). If i had known ahead of team that a scum of the earth, cheating, lying, greed fueled jackass like Clay Bennett was going to rip the Sonics from Seattle fans hearts, I would have rooted for them more.

XXXIX: New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles: See Above. Except throw in the fact that the Eagles are just above the Giants on my hate list and the fact that TO was involved, made it really hard to root for the Eagles.

XXXVIII: New England Patriots vs Carolina Panthers: See Above. This was extremely easy to root for the Panthers after the two cheerleaders were found to be making out in the bathroom.

XXXVII: TB Buccaneers vs Oakland Raiders: An unhealthy dislike for Al Davis and the fact that he just let Jon Gruden go, made this an easy choice. It also has been reported that during this game is when Al went from being Human to being in the ranks of the The Undead.

XXXVI: New England Patriots vs St Louis Rams: See Above.

XXXV: Baltimore Ravens vs New York Giants: This one was easy as I make it a life choice not to root for teams that employ double murderers.

XXXIV: St Louis Rams vs Tennessee Titans: This one was difficult but it came down to Tennessee taking away one of my favorite uniforms and helmets of all time, The Houston Oilers.

XXXIII: Denver Broncos vs Atlanta Falcons: This one is obvious as the Falcons beat the 15-1 Vikings because Robert Smith ran out of bounds instead of taking a hit and keeping the clock running and Gary "Effing" Anderson missing his first FG of the year to get to the Super Bowl. Yes, I am still bitter.

So that is 10 years of Super Bowls where 9 of them I had an easy choice of rooting interest. This year not so much. So who am i rooting for? I am going to go with the Arizona Cardinals. And it has nothing against the Steelers who i view as one of the best run and proudest franchises. But I am going to go with the Cardinals because:

1. If I am torn, I like to root for the underdog.
2. Brenda Warner all of a sudden becoming quite hot.
3. The amazing Larry Fitzgerald. In a world of diva WR's (TO, Ocho, Moss) it is nice to see a humble great WR.
4. The Diamondbacks beat the Yankees
5. Pittsburgh has already won 5. Its time for someone else to win 1.

Enjoy the game, whoever you happen to be rooting for.
