Tonight, the AP released there All-American Team for NCAA Mens College Basketball. There are 3 teams, i will comment on all teams with the one guy who has a chance to make it in the show in Bold.
1st Team:
Kevin Durant - Texas: I checked his stats, though quite impressive he only put up 11 pts vs TX State? Now i didnt see this game, and maybe it included all teams from TX like the Spurs, Mavericks, Rockets and Cowboys. In that case i give him props as i am sure TO wouldnt pass and just launch shots from 3/4 court.
Alando Tucker - Wisconsin: He averaged 19.9 per game, which was about 80% of his team points. But like a 4th grade basketball team (see Big Ten), eventually someone is going to fire one off the backboard at 80 mph and have it drop.
Acie Law IV - Texas A&M: Dont see anything wrong with his game, but is he sticking with the IV. Not only is that a medical term for someone who needs help, but couldnt he just put 4, or IIII, much easier for the common folk, as they say "Whats this IV crap?". Wait, those are jersey options, which equal more sales. He is a genius.
Arron Affalo - UCLA: I like this guy, but he had 1 assist and 2 turnovers vs Sam Houston. This is the whole UCLA team vs one guy and he couldnt do any better? If this Sam guy is so good, why didnt he make the list?
Greg Oden - Ohio State: Not sure he has the heart. He skipped out on several early important games like VMI and YSU, which i think stand for Very Much Important and You Suck U.
2nd Team:
Nick Fazekas - Nevada: Any guy that can go from Nevada to Alaska in November, play in the -38 degree weather and still get 29pts and 10 Rbs, is my kinda guy, especially if i was starting up a team in Furkalreistenmeyr, Antartica.
Tyler Hansbrough - UNC: Almost all of his stats dropped from last year to this year except minutes, which i am sure was the case where they couldnt get him off the court cause he was sitting in the corner sucking his thumb
Chris Lofton - Tennessee: Big time player, played in all of their losses until Ole Miss came along and he had a DNP. Dont know if i can trust him showing up for battles with the Knicks or Celtics in the East.
Jaren Dudley - Boston College: He grew up in San Diego and went to BC, dont know if i can trust his decision making, umm, you lived in San Diego dude?!?!
Joakim Noah - Florida: The most laughable selection to this group that i dont even have to make a joke. But i will. His TO went up from 1.9 to 2.5 which would be bad enough if it meant turnovers, but i am pretty sure it meant Time Outs Called so he could fix his hair. It also said he got 99 offensive rebounds, yes they were quite offensive when you factor in that he sprayed Clairol HairNet around the basket on each offensive possesion.
3rd Team:
Jeff Green - Georgetown: One of the most consistant players around. But a somewhat boring name. Torn between hearing Gus Johnson screaming "Green Eggs and Ham, I Am!!" or James Brown saying "You know that Green is also the name of the Green Bay Packers who have Brett Favre" Yeah, Gus.
Al Horford - Florida: Good player, had increased minutes this year due to time spent under the basket doing Noah's hair
Aaron Brooks - Oregon: Have to give him props for dividing time QB-ing the Raiders and playing for the Ducks. On the Ducks he averaged 4.3 assists which was higher than his completions per game to his own team for the Raiders. Though his turnover ratio on the Raiders was much higher. If he could convince Randy Moss to continue his basketball career the number may even out.
Al Thorton - Florida State: Assist to TO ratio was .28, it would be higher, but TO dropped most of them
Aaron Gray - Pittsburgh: His scoring was up and down this year. It seemed that teams that played the Stand Next To The Lumbering Big White Guy, stopped him and the teams that played the Let The Doofus Roam Around And Be Distracted By Butterflies defense, he was able to score as he would scream "Ohhh, Big Butterfly, Must Put In Basket" when the ball came near him.
There was one omission to the list, Josh McRoberts, as he is going to be a bench sitter for a good team or a crappy player for a bad team. Depending on whether he goes in the late first or somewhere in the second round.
Pre-season predictions for the team were pretty good, they missed on two that were somewhat unexpected. Glen "Big Baby" Davis (derailed by the introduction of the Quad Burger at Burger King) and Brandon Rush (derailed when he showed up to practice and Bill Self was still his coach.)
Ok...lot to cover this week...be back tomorrow...
